Featured is a beautiful full page Post-Script letter written in the hand of General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. Signed “J. L. C.,” 5 x 8, Office of the Surveyor of Customs, Port of Portland ME letterhead, originally written on October 30, 1900. 1 Page, In very fine condition, with nice bold handwriting. This PS 1 page letter was taken from a larger 2 page letter to Dana Estes regarding an upcoming trip to Italy and Egypt. This would look perfect framed up with a photo of the General.

In 1900, President William McKinley appointed Chamberlain the surveyor of customs at the port of Portland, and through the courtesy of the government he was enabled to make visits to Italy and to Egypt. It was a journey that he was very much anticipating, for he hoped that trip would offer him some relief from painful wounds he sustained in the Civil War—injuries from which he suffered greatly.
