Large cut in ink “J. B. Gordon, Georgia”. Scattered toning and soiling throughout, overall very good. Overall size of slip measures 3 ¾ x 2 ¼ .

Confederate general (1832–1904) who surrendered Lee’s army to Union General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain at Appomattox Courthouse. After the war, he served as a senator from Georgia, as well as the state’s 53rd governor.
