14th ME SoldierPRICE….SOLD

Featured is a cased ninth plate tintype of a Union sergeant, identified on a period note pinned to the pad-Danvill Thompson.  HDS records list just one soldier by the name Danville Thompson, a resident of Solon, Maine, who enlisted as a private in Co. E, 14th Maine Infantry, on Dec. 11, 1861.  He was promoted to sergeant in 1862, re-enlisted on New Year’s Day 1864, and was killed in action Sept. 19, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia.  Thompson was one of eight soldiers in his regiment killed that day, along with 29 wounded, two taken POW, and three missing. Overall very good condition.
