23rd NY Cavalryman 1/4 plate tintype

23rd newyork cavalryman   PRICE…..SOLD

Here is an absolutely stunning 1/4 plate tintype in full leather case of a NY Cavalryman. While the cavalryman is unidentified, the number “23” can be seen on his kepi and New York is the only Northern State to have a cavalry regiment that high. The cavalryman is quite tall and he stands holding his unsheathed saber in front of a backdrop that includes an American flag, tents and what appears to be a water scene. In the distance the outlines of a fortress can also be seen. A magnificent image, it is sharp and clear with nice focus. The soldier has trousers that are tinted light blue with the crossed saber emblem and the numerals “23” show sharply on his kepi. His scabbard can be seen resting at his side. The 23rd NY Cavalry served in the Carolina Campaigns from 1863-65. A really great image to add to your collection.2 23rd ny
